She went to the doctor to have an ultrasound. When the doctor looked at the screen, he was simply stunned

Many couples wish to start a family. It comes naturally to certain people. Others may find it much more challenging. Then there are individuals who get rewarded in unexpected ways for their efforts…

The story of Rachelle and Jayson Wilkinson from Texas is a wonderful example of this last type. And, no matter how astonished you are, you can guarantee they were even more surprised. They’d been married for a few years and already had two children, Kaiya and Riley. They were hankering after a third. They tried… and tried… but to no avail.

Despite this, they did not give up and even began fertility treatment. Rachelle was given hormones, and they seemed to work quickly: she became pregnant again! When they went in for their first ultrasound, the doctor exclaimed, “There are two heartbeats!” They were expecting twins! The Wilkinson family was overjoyed.

It was possible that the story might finish there, but it was not to be. There were more heartbeats the next time they went to the doctor. The twins were number one and number two. There’s a third… and then there’s another. It didn’t end there, either. There were five babies in there, count them, FIVE. Rachelle was expecting quintuplets, which is a common occurrence among fertility therapy participants.

“The word “shocked” barely scratches the surface of how I felt at the time,” she wrote on her blog.

They were confronted with a difficult decision, but in the end, Jayson and Rachelle opted to carry on with the risky multiple pregnancies, hoping that all of the babies would survive. Despite the odds, all of the babies thrived! How fortunate and unusual that the tale took this path.

Rachelle grew bigger and bigger as a result! At 33 weeks, she looks like this:

Then, on July 20, 2007, five healthy infants, three girls and two boys, came on that amazing day. Kassidy, Kaydence, Kyndall, Rustin, and Ryder were their names.

Everyone close to the Wilkinsons wanted to be present to help on the big day, so there were a total of 29 individuals in the delivery room…

But that wasn’t the end of the narrative; it was just the beginning. You may get a taste of what it’s like to have quintuplets by watching Jayson’s wonderful, amusing films of his family of nine on YouTube!
