Hi, I am Natalie! I am 4 years old, almost up to a whole hand! ( she holds 4 fingers up).
Grandma’s coming home for Christmas! It’s going to be so much fun! She told me she’s getting a surprise for me! I hope it’s that new Polly Pocket.
She told me that presents don’t matter to her. The only present she wants is to see me! She’s coming all the way from Georgia!
Mummy says that’s a long ways way. Grandma says they grow oranges there! I like oranges.
Well. I got to go to bed now, Daddy’s going to read my favorite book! It’s about a bear who makes a friend named pig and they go on a picnic and…(Mom Calls: ” Natalie! Brush your teeth sweetie!”) Well I have to go. bye-bye! Goodnight.
The night passes and morning comes.
Mom calls: “Natalie wake up Grandma’s here”!
GRANDMA!!!
Natalie runs down the stairs to the living room… it’s empty…
Wheres Grandma?
Natalie starts crying. Her mom comes in.
Mommy where is grandma? You said she was here!
Mom: “Sweetie, it’s 6:00 in the morning, what are you doing up this early? –yawn-
Where is Grandma?
Mom: “Grandma’s not here yet honey. She doesn’t come until tomorrow”.
Mom picks her up and brings her to her bed.
Mom: “You need some sleep. I don’t want you to be tired today. You’re a bum when you’re tired.” Mom kisses Natalie on her forehead and goes back to her room.
I can’t fall asleep… 10 minutes pass. Ugh! I’ll try counting sheep. That will work: 1..2..3..4… “Natalie!” grandma calls from the living room.
Grandma: “Natalie, I’m here!”
GRANDMA!!!!
Natalie throws off her covers and runs to the living room again. She sees her grandma sitting on the couch with a smile on her face.
Grandma: “Natalie, my sunshine…”
GRANDMA!!! (she hugs her)
Grandma: “Ohh sunshine, is that the tightest hug you have? Show me a bear hug!”
Natalie hugs her really tight!
“Now darling, you have to get some sleep you know. Mommy doesn’t want you to be a bum in the morning.”
Natalie falls asleep in her grandma’s arms…
She wakes up at 9:00 in her bed. “Grandma must have carried me to bed last night. She’s the bestest grandma ever!! I love her plus plus plus plus PLUS infinity.”
She goes down to the kitchen where she finds her mom crying.
“Did daddy lose his job again?”
Her mom looks at her and nods her head back and forth slowly and forces a smile.
Mom: “Gran…Grandma will not be coming this Christmas.”
WHY??? Natalie starts crying…
Mom: “Grandma’s in a beautiful place…”
Natalie: “Really? Like the flower garden we saw on TV?!”
Mom: “Like the flower garden we saw on the TV. Even better.”
Ooooh! What’s this place called? I want to go!
Mom: “ Sweetie… Grandma is in heaven. Flying around with beautiful angels of all types. Where everyone is kind, and nobody fights”
GRANDMA IS DEAD??
Mom: No sweetie, she will always be alive in our hearts…”
But she’s here! She took me to bed!
Mom: “Sweetie, she can’t be here. She went to heaven at 6:10 AM”
But… she’s here…
