When it comes to childbirth, things don’t always go as planned, and this true story is one of them.
In 2005, Dr. Mauricio Heilbron, Jr. sets the scene at his hospital’s emergency room in San Pedro, California. A gunshot victim, a man with his intestines outside of his body (gross!), and a pregnant woman were among the patients on a hectic night.

He was startled when he heard the pregnant woman yell in anguish, followed by swift, loud footsteps. He turned around to witness an ER doctor race to the woman, leaping and landing on his knees on the pregnant woman’s gurney just in time to grab her baby as he flew out!
The unknown doctor’s “sweet catch” may have saved the baby’s life in a potentially fatal mishap! The doctor’s clothes were one of the casualties. “Here’s this perfectly dressed emergency department physician suddenly coated in afterbirth, blood, fluid, feces, urine, and God knows what else,” Dr. Heilbron tells “Untold Stories of the ER.”
What a bizarre tale! Tell your friends about this brave doctor’s actions!
