The man found a child on the street, abandoned in a shoebox.

What this man has accomplished is extraordinary and deserving of all praise; here is his remarkable story.

In the 1980s, China implemented a new child policy (each couple could only have one child), which resulted in numerous abortions when parents discovered the child’s gender, as well as many abandoned children. Having a female was not necessarily ideal in China at the time. The boys had a better chance of getting compensated work. However, not all parents had abortions; some killed their children who had the misfortune of giving birth to girls, while others abandoned them in shoeboxes on the streets. Yu Shangzhong, on the other hand, refused to let this happen.

Yu Shangzhong and his wife adopted their first daughter 35 years ago, when he was 40, according to News Asia. Four years later, he saw an abandoned child in a shoebox on the street, and he didn’t have the heart to leave her there, so he took her home, adopted her, and the two ended up adopting 12 females throughout the years.

It wasn’t always easy for them, according to their eldest daughter: “I had a rough time. My mother used to carry me on her back, grab food from the street, and beg when I was a child. Money and clothing were given to us by strangers. Because of the challenges, they eventually found other parents to adopt their elder girls. Two of the twelve girls are already in college, leaving only five of the twelve with their adopted parents.

Yu’s children gathered on her 70th birthday and presented her with a gold ring as a symbol of appreciation. This story should serve as a reminder of how fortunate we are to live in this part of the globe. It’s difficult not to be moved by Yu’s dedication to these youngsters who had been abandoned by their own parents despite having little to eat!
