Prince Harry is still haunted by the loss of his mother. He said he was afraid he would lose his wife Meghan.
Meghan said her experience in the UK led her to suicidal thoughts when she was pregnant with their first son Archie.
Harry said this was the main reason they gave up their royal duties and moved to California.
Even now, at 36, he says returning to London makes him feel tense and hunted.
Speaking in detail about the fact that he failed to cope with the loss of his mother for more than a decade, Harry said that the fear that he might lose his wife Meghan was one of the main reasons why the couple gave up regular duties and moved to California.
“My mother was followed to death because she had a relationship with someone who wasn’t white and now look what happened. Are you talking about the history that repeats itself? It won’t stop until it dies.”
“It’s extremely traumatic to lose another woman in my life,” he added, referring to Meghan.
Harry, whose wife is biracial, talked about racist reports in the British press about his wife, as well as about abuses on social networks. Meghan said her experience in the UK led her to suicidal thoughts when she was pregnant with their first son Archie.
Harry talked about walking behind Diana’s coffin on the streets of London with his brother William, his father, Prince Charles, and Uncle Charles Spencer.
“A feeling I always relive is helplessness. I was too young to help a woman, in this case, my mother, and that happened every day,” he said.
Harry said he buried his feelings in alcohol and had panic and anxiety attacks at the age of 20 and is still scared when he sees cameras.
“I was so angry with what happened to my mother and the fact that there was no justice at all … the same people who watched her through that tunnel photographed her dying in the back seat of that car,” he said…
“The cameras make my blood boil. It annoys me. I go back to what happened to my mother, to what I lived as a child.”
Harry said he started serious therapy almost five years ago when he met Meghan. “I quickly established that if this relationship was to work, I had to deal with my past,” said Harry. The couple got married in May 2018.
The British couple has repeatedly criticized the way they are treated in the press. In a statement issued in 2019, the prince compared the attention given to his wife’s tabloids with the treatment his mother received from the press.
Princess Diana died in 1997, at the age of 36, in an accident in Paris, while the car, in which she was traveling with her boyfriend of Egyptian origin, Dodi Fayed, was chased by the paparazzi. The investigation established that Diana’s death occurred in the conditions of non-compliance with the traffic rules amid the “flagrant negligence” shown by both the driver and the journalists who were following the car, Harry was 12 years old.
