Animals are wonderful beings who deserve our love and respect. And it’s a wonderful thing when a man does everything in his power to help them.
This is the case of Patrick Kilonzo Mwalua, from Kenya, he is one of these rare heroes. Patrick does a wonderful thing every day – and in return, he won the hearts of hundreds of animals.
Animals in Kenya’s Tsavo West National Park are left to die due to the prolonged drought that periodically strikes the area.
It hasn’t rained in the park for a whole year, since June last year, and Patrick explains: “If we don’t help them, then they will definitely die.” And for him, the last option is neither a choice nor an option.
So, every day, he drives a truck through the park, the truck has over 11,000 liters of freshwater. And since there is no water in the park at all, the animals have become totally dependent on the help of people like Patrick who don’t want to let them die at any cost, so they volunteer.
As soon as I hear his truck coming, the animals gather happily next to Patrick as he lets the water flow. Patrick confesses: “Last night I found 500 buffaloes waiting at the pit where I put water. When I arrived, they could smell the water. They were so happy and they were approaching us. They started drinking with us there, they were so happy! ”
The project was started by Patrick a year ago. At first, he rented a truck, and simply drove to different areas of the park. Now it has got more trucks and that makes for hours, daily, driving to transport the long-awaited water.
We are not lying if we say that if he had not done his job every day, the animals would have died a long time ago.
True heroes are a rare breed, and Patrick is undoubtedly one.
