A 67-year-old woman arrived at the hospital with severe eye pain, and doctors thought she had cataracts. When they operated on her, the doctors were shocked to discover something the woman had been living with for 35 years. There were 27 of them.
In 2019, a woman in the UK whose name was not disclosed underwent cataract surgery at Solihull Hospital, near the city of Birmingham. She had arrived at the hospital the night before, suffering from severe pain in her left eye.
The 67-year-old woman wore contact lenses for about 35 years, but this did not affect her in any way during her life. Although she had a very well-developed hygiene, the woman ended up in great pain. This made her arrive one night at the nearest hospital with very severe pain in one eye.
The doctors thought it was a simple irritation. After several routine tests, the ophthalmologist consulted the eye in which the woman complained of pain and was shocked by what was in front of her eyes. The ophthalmologist found a very large mass in one of the eyes. After a few checks, they realized that the table consisted of 17 contact lenses. The lenses remained in the woman’s eye for so long that they clung to each other and became a whole.
After removing the 17 contact lenses from the surface, the doctors had an even bigger shock. In the woman’s eye, under the 17 contact lenses, they found another 10 lenses. It is a fascinating thing how a person managed to live so many years with 27 contact lenses in one eye.
The ophthalmologist who consulted her name is Rupal Morjaria and he stated that none of him or his colleagues have ever seen such a thing. He stated that he was primarily surprised that the woman managed to live with so many lenses in her eyes and that she did not notice. Normally, the lenses should have caused a great deal of irritation to his eyes. When she found out, the patient stated that she noticed over time that she was missing lenses but that she would never have thought that they were right in her eye. After the doctors removed the lenses, the woman no longer complained of pain.
