The dog in the shelter extends its paw to all who pass by its cage trying to be as friendly as possible. But unfortunately here’s what happens to him every day:
It’s impossible to pass the cage where Speck lives in the Bullock County Humane Society shelter without stopping to say “Hello.”
When he sees someone approaching, the loving dog pulls its snout between the metal bars and stretches its paw trying to be as friendly as possible.
“All he wants is the love of the people,” said Desiray Miracle-Wilder, the shelter’s director. “He will stretch out his paw and he just wants you to touch him and hold him. And it’s such a sad scene when you want to finish cleaning or whatever else you have to do. ”
However, Speck was not always like that and his life was not easy. He wandered the streets scaring the less fortunate days before reaching a shelter in Alabama. He waited a year and a half for someone to adopt him. But despite spending much of his life on the streets and not being adopted, he remained a calm and optimistic dog.
“You can put anything unspoken around him – another big dog, a cat… He is so determined to receive people’s love that he doesn’t care about anything else,” Wilder said.
“She just wants to touch him,” she added. “If you sit down, he will lie down on you, if you take his paw, he will hold your hand, if you scratch his belly, he will roll.”
In early April, Wilder was cleaning his cage when he came up with the idea to film the adorable routine when Speck paws.
Hoping that someone will show interest in Speck, she posted the video on her Facebook page.
The video quickly went viral, being viewed over 96,000 times in just a few days.
The video with Speck caught the attention of Allie’s Hope For Paws Dog Rescue, which went to great lengths to connect the dog in the shelter with a wonderful man who wanted to adopt him.
“He will reach a 10 ha farm where he will enjoy the love of Mike, his family, and the two brothers!” Wilder wrote on Facebook. “It simply came to our notice then. This video not only helped Speck’s adoption, but thanks to him, other dogs in the shelter found loving families, and volunteers received food donations from good-natured people! ”
Now, Speck is waiting to reach his destination to finally meet his adopted family. He leaves behind a few other veterans who are still waiting for the chance to find a permanent home. Wilder hopes Speck’s happy case will inspire other people to open their hearts and adopt a shelter animal.
