Though it may seem difficult to believe, not everyone on the earth adores dogs. On the other hand, only a few people can resist the utterly lovely charms of a small dog. One woman was all too aware of this truth.
Living with someone who isn’t a lover of the lovely fur animals can be difficult. Compromise seemed to be the only way to get through it. Unless, of course, you’re Sue Markham. In that case, you can simply pull a quick one on your husband and avoid the full drama of the disagreement.
Sue realized that there was an easier way to get what she wanted than negotiating with her husband about getting a puppy and then compromise on size. She’d just have to “bend the truth” for a limited period of time.
Sue went to the animal shelter with this in mind and brought home an attractive little black and white dog.
Sue’s husband, on the other hand, was adamant about not having a large dog in the house. He had no idea that the Boston Great Dane puppy his wife had brought home was a Boston Great Dane. If you don’t know anything about them, they are one of the largest dog breeds on the planet. So, how would she persuade her husband to keep their new pet? Lie.
The dog-obsessed lady informed her husband that the puppy was a Jack Russel terrier, a breed famed for its diminutive size. Her husband, who isn’t fond of dogs, was completely unaware of the situation.
While lying to her husband was hazardous, Sue knew that all he needed was a little time with the puppy to show that he does, in fact, love dogs of all sizes…and even large ones. Though her husband was first unaware of his wife’s deception, it became clear that he’d been duped when the puppy, whose they named Yogi Bear, quickly outgrew any Jack Russel he’d ever seen in size.
His wife realized it was time to come clean when he finally noticed.
Sue told her husband about her deception, but he couldn’t remain upset for long, as she had predicted. Thankfully, he was never bothered by his wife’s betrayal in the first place. Why? Because Sue was absolutely correct! Her husband was far too enamored with their growing puppy to ever be angry that they had gotten him.
The dog, on the other hand, had a pleasant surprise in store for his parents.
Yogi was not just a Boston Great Dane, with an average weight of 135 pounds, but he was also a behemoth among his breed. The youngster swiftly grew to be 65 pounds heavier than the usual for his breed. Yogi was 200 pounds when he was fully matured!
The Markham’s puppy was not just large for his breed in terms of size, but also in terms of weight. Yogi also grew to reach 6’11” tall, which is incredible! Yogi would almost certainly be picked into the NBA if he were human!
“I figured a large dog would be a lot of work and possibly cause problems. Our living room is quite small. ‘How much trouble can a Jack Russell cause?’ I reasoned. “He was bigger than any Jack Russell he came across at the park by the time he was five months old, and he had this gigantic tongue that lolled out of his mouth and a tail like a baseball bat,” Sue’s husband, Robert, recalls of the puppy in a Daily Mail interview.
Yogi’s reputation for being as big as a horse is no joke. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. Winter horse jackets are required for this adorable behemoth of a dog because dog-sized ones will not fit him.
Beyond the nice clothing, it turns out that the now 9-year-old Boston Great Dane is quite spoilt.
Yogi is now a gentle giant, as well as a hungry one, despite the fact that he started off at just over a pound when they brought him home. The 200-pounder eats like nobody’s business, devouring around $213 in food every month. This isn’t just any dog food.
Yogi’s mother prepares a delectable breakfast for him, which includes no fewer than four scrambled eggs and delectable sausages. It’s only breakfast! Yogi has his own comfortable couch to lay on while watching TV after he’s finished his morning feed.
Sue claims that her enormous puppy understands that the couch is his and his alone and that strangers attempting to take it from him are not welcome.
“Bear considers himself to be a member of the family. He considers himself to be a real person. He sits on his own sofa and joins us in front of the television. He guards it with his life. He won’t let a stranger sit on his sofa if they come in,” Sue adds.
Yogi’s best fur friend, an elderly neighborhood cat who comes over simply to snuggle with the giant canine on his warm couch, is the only other person who can sit on his couch. Isn’t that adorable?
