World cinema has attempted to portray the narrative of Jesus as accurately as possible over the years. Two of the productions stood out among the rest. The first is Zeffireli’s “Jesus of Nazareth,” and the second is Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ,” which was released in 2004. Robert Powell was the actor who most convincingly put himself in the shoes of the character. What is the actor’s current status, and how does he appear now that he is no longer playing the renowned role?
Robert Powell will go down in history as the most convincing actor who has ever played Jesus. He played Jesus of Nazareth in the 1977 film “Jesus of Nazareth,” and is widely regarded as the best actor ever to portray the Son of God.
Given that Al Pacino and Dustin Hoffman were on director Zeffireli’s list, his casting in the legendary part was purely coincidental. Powell was cast for this part because of his beautiful blue eyes. The director was taken with the color of his eyes and made him not blink during the filming. Furthermore, the actor was not permitted to marry during the filming and promotion of the film in order to avoid jeopardizing his image as a result of the part he portrayed.
Robert Powell is now 75 years old and lives quietly in the United Kingdom. He has been married to Barbara Lord since 1975 and they have two children together. Barney Powell and Kate Powell in A Boy and a Girl (1977). (1979).

Powell has appeared in a number of TV shows and theater productions since 2000. He made an appearance in a documentary, mini-series, based on the role he played in his adolescence, in April 2018. The film, titled “The Real Jesus of Nazareth” and narrated by Judd Hirsch, chronicled the life of Jesus and included footage from the original film.
After appearing in Zeffireli’s film, he was claimed to have been cursed.
Jesus, the most complicated character in history, was represented by 12 notable actors. All twelve were supposed to be cursed. That’s because some people were hit by lightning, others were forgotten by Hollywood, and still, others had to face the wrath of the bastards.
Robert Powell’s drama is that he is no longer wanted by directors. No other director had the bravery to cast him in a different part because he was so convincing as Jesus. In essence, his acting career came to an end following his first and only successful role.
