Kate Middleton and Prince William were among the family members who visited the queen during her holiday at Balmoral this summer. The monarch has 11 great-grandchildren.
Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis have a close relationship with their great-grandmother, and the Duchess spoke about the tradition that the Queen does not deviate from whenever they visit her.
In her first solo TV interview for the 2016 ITV documentary, Our Queen at 90, Kate revealed the monarch’s love for her family.
Speaking about the birth of her daughter Charlotte, the Duchess said: “The Queen was really excited to be a little girl and I think as soon as we got back here in Kensington, she was one of our first visitors. I think she really likes Charlotte. She’s always looking at what she’s doing. ”
“George is only two and a half years old and he calls her ‘Gan-Gan.’ She always leaves a small gift or something in their room when we go and stay, and that shows the love for her family. ”
The Dukes of Cambridge traditionally visit the Queen at her Scottish estate in the summer and spend Christmas with the monarch at Sandringham, staying at their nearby home, Anmer Hall.
Prior to her engagement to Prince William, Kate enjoyed an invitation to Balmoral. The future duchess’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton were also invited to the queen’s estate.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will no doubt be preparing for a busy autumn schedule, while their children return to school and kindergarten next week.
