This little poodle was neglected and starved for so long that he forgot how to eat. But wait and see what the dog looks like now when a person with a good heart decides to save him and give him a new life:
Recently, a woman walking down a street in Tampa, Florida, saw something strange in the window of a house: a thin poodle, who looked very ill.
Immediately after arriving home, the worried woman called the Animal Control Authority.
When Animal Control officers gained access to that home, they found not just one dog inside, but three hungry quadrupeds. Unfortunately, two of the dogs died shortly after they were rescued… The poodle sitting at the window was barely alive.
The 9-year-old poodle was named Beni. The neglected animal arrived at a local shelter where the staff did everything to help him. In addition to being very weak, he had diabetes, a tumor on his leg, and skin infection.
Since Beni was so ill, the euthanasia hypothesis was considered. But before that, the shelter sent an e-mail to all the employees about Beni, which also reached the electronic mailbox of Debbie Goldsberry, the founder of Senior Paws Sanctuary.
Beni was taken from the shelter and taken directly to the vet, but no one was sure he would be able to survive. “He didn’t know how to eat,” Goldsberry said. “He took food in his mouth, but he did not know how to eat. If he had swallowed it, his body would not have been able to process it. ”
Eventually, with the help of veterinarians and artificial feeding, Beni began to eat normally and survived. After leaving the veterinary clinic, he moved in with the Goldsberry and the 26 dogs he cares for in the shelter he runs.
Day by day, the dog’s health gradually improved…
“I think he realized that people really care about him,” Goldsberry recalls. “He started eating, he started drinking liquids.” Goldsberry also spent a lot of time holding Beni in his arms, making sure he was loved and safe.
Beni’s health has greatly improved since his diabetes stabilized and his fur grew again. In addition, the puppy has become much more confident!
However, when the tumor was removed from his leg, the veterinarian made a sad discovery. Beni had terminal cancer.
After all, this did not stop Beni from enjoying his new life, and Goldsberry does everything in his power to make the last part of the quadruped’s life as beautiful as possible.
“We try to make every day a special one for this hard-fought dog, who will be cared for and loved until the last moment of his life,” Goldsberry confesses.
