Their newborn baby died in hospital – 4 days later, a call from a nurse would change everything

It is a dream of many young couples to start their own family. That’s why Katie and Josh Butler in Nashville, Tennessee, USA, was in the ninth heaven when they found out they were having a baby.

However, their hopes and desires turned to ashes before they began their journey as parents.

When Katie went to the doctor for a 20-week ultrasound, it was discovered that something was wrong. The doctors could not determine exactly what the problem was, but they knew that the pregnancy was not going well.

And so began the adventure of their lives… one with many upheavals and a completely unexpected end.

After Dewey, the child of Katie and Josh Butler was born, he was rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit. Unfortunately, this was not enough; Dewey died after 132 days of fighting for his life. His heart could not bear the surgery to supply him with food through a special tube.

Katie and Josh were devastated. They were so confident that Dewey would survive and get over this obstacle, so it was a severe blow when they learned of his death, news that left them both in terrible distress.

“I felt so guilty because I thought about it, but it was also a feeling of liberation; In the end, he didn’t suffer and I know that at some point I will see him again, “Katie told Caters News Agency.

The parents turned to God for help in their trials. When Katie and Josh were in the process of saying goodbye to their precious Dewey, something completely unexpected would happen.

One of the nurses from the neonatal intensive care unit wanted to inform the couple that on the 5th floor of the hospital there was a child who needed a mother and a father. The little boy, named Brax, had multiple health problems, and his family was unable to care for him.

Katie and Josh didn’t know what to expect, but a few days later they met a very cute little boy. Brax was born prematurely at 27 weeks. Although he was now 11 months old, he had never left the hospital due to chronic respiratory failure and pulmonary hypertension. However, Katie and Josh were told that there was a good chance that his health would improve with age.

It wasn’t long before the couple decided what they wanted to do about this child. They took Brax home and took care of him. Then, a few months later, when they were eligible, they officially adopted him.

“Shortly after I brought him home, his health began to improve visibly. He knows us, smiles at us, and can identify us. Everyone in our family really loves him. We have such a great but unfulfilled love for Dewey, and we want to give everything we feel to Brax. ”

We wish Katie and Josh a happy life with Brax. What happened to Dewey is painful for any parent, but there is light at the end of this family’s dark tunnel, in the form of another vulnerable child who needs their help.
