“In the right place, at the right time”: how many times have I said or heard these words? In life, we have all faced situations where time and good fortune have really made a difference.
This is also the case of the bus driver, a veteran of the Iraq war, who is at the center of the story you are going to read below, a man who managed to prevent a robbery on an elderly woman, bravely intervening in a situation which, for her, could have proved really problematic.
The man’s name is Zsolt Karoly and he runs bus number 21 in Miskolc, Hungary every day. One day, Zsolt could not ignore the scene in which a man was watching an old woman walking with a cane.
It didn’t take long for the driver to realize what was happening: it was clearly an attempted robbery, with the robber trying to steal the woman’s bag, and the woman stoically resisting the attack. Without the slightest hesitation, Zsolt stopped the bus in the middle of the street, got off, and pulled the thief aside, then pushed him into a nearby park. Surprised, the thief had no choice but to flee, as the driver immediately put the scared and confused old woman in his vehicle.
The whole scene was recorded by the security cameras of the bus, and the video clearly shows the presence of spirit and courage that this man could have in the case of a helpless person. Police then managed to identify the assailant, a 27-year-old man who risks being seriously charged.
This is not the first time Zsolt has faced such situations. By working in public transport, you can really witness all sorts of things, but it is encouraging to know that there are brave people who never hesitate to take risks to help others.
The world definitely needs more people like this driver!
