Carol Nakamura met little Wallace, a 9-year-old Brazilian boy while volunteering for a needy community in Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro; there, in a landfill, he was lucky to meet this little boy with so many sufferings and shortcomings in his life and a lot of dreams to achieve…
Even though Wallace is only 9 years old, the harshness of his life has never made him lose his smile and hope for a better future: when he grows up he wants to become a veterinarian. Carol Nakamura was really impressed by Wallace’s past and situation, so she decided to invite the little boy to her house at Christmas.
Seeing him there, in her house, marveling at things we treat too normally, such as air conditioning, hot showers, and so on, triggered something in Carol’s heart: the woman couldn’t come to terms with the idea that he will return to the landfill and has decided that he will do everything to be able to adopt him and give him a more dignified life!
And so it was, Carol Nakamura decided to start the adoption process to give Wallace a home forever. She managed to defeat the bureaucratic system together with her partner Guilherme Leonel and they are a very happy and very united family; now little Wallace can have access to proper education, enjoy a roof under which to live, eat, and sleep, and an adoptive family who has learned much from his presence and affection. As Carol Nakamura confesses, “She taught me to be more grateful for the life I live!”
