To say that Stevie and Jimmy have a simple friendship would be a serious understatement. The two dogs simply could not live without each other. Stevie, who is a blind four-legged Shar-Pei, is particularly dependent on Jimmy, an adorable Chihuahua.
“I’ve never seen – in the 30 years I’ve been rescuing animals – a connection like that between the two,” said Neda Rosa, a board member and volunteer at Shar-Pei California. “And the best part is that Jimmy, the Chihuahua, knows his partner is blind and takes care of him. It is attached to it like glue. She constantly takes care of him and caresses him non-stop. All he wants is to be by his side. ”
Earlier this month, Jimmy and Stevie were taken to Southern California at the Ramona Humane Society. Unfortunately, no one showed up to claim the couple, although there were indications that they had lived together in the same house.
Shortly after their arrival at the shelter, a photo of the two dogs caught the attention of the “Shar-Pei California” rescue team, who decided to save them.
“We are a team that rescues and rehabilitates Shar-Pei dogs,” Rosa said. “But when we saw how these two dogs were connected, we thought there was no way to leave his little friend behind.”
Jimmy, who is about five years older than Stevie but much more energetic, spends a lot of time taking care of his blind companion.
“Jimmy is always with him. “, Confesses Rose. “She is his protector and you immediately realize that they spent a lot of time together. Jimmy always licks [Stevie’s] eyes, is always attentive to him, and doesn’t want to leave him for a moment. ”
Stevie and Jimmy now live in the small Shar-Pei California shelter, where they will stay until they find a permanent home. “Anyone interested needs to understand Stevie’s health issues,” says Rosa. In addition to being blind, he has begun to have seizures and will probably have to take medication for the rest of his life – but despite all the problems, they both deserve a good life.
And, of course, the two friends must be adopted together.
“These two quadrupeds should only be adopted as a package,” confesses Rosa. “We will not separate them. So they need a special person to accept them both. ”
