Pets, especially dogs, are terribly frightened by fireworks, so much so that on the occasion of the New Year, in every country, the alarm is raised about this tradition so unpleasant for our pets. Firecrackers and fireworks that are fired on New Year’s Eve or at any other important public event are a real source of anxiety for the owners of four-legged friends: their health is actually endangered by this completely avoidable practice. This is also the case with the owners of Rajah, a dog that is frightened by any louder noise, who were very worried when they discovered that their quadruped had run away from home. The dog, when he began to hear the fireworks, which are traditionally used in America on July 4, fled the house in fear.
Mary Lynn Whitacre and Ryan Washick knew that their four-legged friend would be frightened, but they could not restrain him when the fireworks exploded in the air. For several hours they searched for Rajah in the vicinity, convinced that he had wandered in those parts; they took the car and began to search the area, but after several hours they found no trace of their dog. As you can imagine, it was a dramatic moment for Rajah’s owners: no one would want their baby to disappear like that!
In a moment of despair, the two even posted an ad on Facebook to alert neighbors and friends if they had information about Rajah. The two had no idea that they would be awakened in the middle of the night by no one but their lover Rajah!
At 3 in the morning, the couple heard the sound of the bell: the surprise was great when they saw that Rajah returned alone and rang the bell with the tip of his nose! He was dirty and the boring expression on his face seemed to say, “I’m sorry, I didn’t want to run.”
Rajah’s unsuspected ability to press the bell button was also highlighted by the footage captured by the video camera located right on the front door of the house. It was a real relief for its owners to wake up at home with their much-loved quadruped!
Even though the ending is a happy one, Rajah’s story reminds us of how dangerous firecrackers and fireworks are for our four-legged friends.
