After being hospitalized for a collapsed lung, a student issues an urgent warning to vapers.

A user on TikTok has turned to the platform in order to deliver an urgent warning to young people, telling them not to vape in order to “respect [their] lungs.” Watch the video by clicking here:

In recent months, vapes and electronic cigarettes have experienced a meteoric rise in popularity. It is now nearly impossible to walk down the street without inhaling strawberry-scented smoke plumes approximately every ten steps.

However, many people have cautioned against the use of electronic cigarettes because of the dangers they represent to one’s health. This is despite the fact that the e-cigarettes come in appealingly colored packaging and a variety of flavors.

And in more recent times, a college student by the name of Grace Johanna has come up after she was hospitalized with a collapsed lung that, according to Grace, her vaping contributed to. Grace is the one who made the statement.

@gracejohanna I got to see how sensitive our lungs are at such a young age. It happened bc of my stature, but please respect your lungs #collapsedlung #spontaneouspneumothorax #stopvaping #vaping ♬ original sound – gracejohanna

Grace shared with her followers on TikTok everything that happened over the four and a half days that she spent in the hospital. She explained that she was admitted with a “spontaneous pneumothorax.”

The student then continued by saying: “Therefore, the entirety of my lung collapsed, beginning here and continuing all the way down to here.

“This experience has fundamentally altered my perspectives on the world, on experiencing pain, and on the profession of nursing. To put it another way, angels descended from heaven.”

Grace explained that she had been brought to the hospital the week prior due to her first collapsed lung, but that she had to be readmitted after it collapsed again and she began “coughing blood.”

The TikToker mentioned how physicians had informed her that she need immediate surgery, which left her feeling ‘horrified.’

After putting Grace under anesthesia, the surgeon removed a “small portion” of lung tissue from her. After that, a portion of her rib and lung were “scrubbed,” which caused the area to become “very sore and inflamed.”

The student related that when she awoke from her coma, she questioned the nurse if “this is what death is” since the pain she was in felt like it would never end and it was “one of the most awful aches.”

Grace was required to have a tube inserted into her lung for a period of three days.

“I felt like I was drowning. I am familiar with the experience of being subjected to severe pain, “— I quote her.

Grace mentioned that a lot of people have asked her whether or not her collapsed lung was caused by vaping, which is something that medical authorities have not yet proven. The student, however, is of the opinion that it most probably played a role in the development of her disease.

It is possible for a primary spontaneous pneumothorax to occur for ‘no obvious reason,’ as stated by Asthma and Lung UK.

When a person is described as having “an existing lung problem,” it is said that they have developed a secondary spontaneous pneumothorax.

‘a chest injury, such as a car accident,’ and ‘an accident during a medical operation,’ are two more causes that have been identified.

In addition, the placement of an endobronchial valve as well as the insertion of acupuncture needles are described as probable causes of a collapsed lung.

Grace made up her mind to find out whatever had caused the collapse of her lung: “To a large extent, this is related to being slender and tall, and vaping is not helpful in this regard.

“I have decided not to use e-cigarettes ever again. At no point in my life. I am going to treat my body with respect.”
