12 elephants who have known only circus life so far have started a new life, in semi-wildness, in a sanctuary in Florida.

The sanctuary specializes in the rehabilitation of animals from exotic species that have gone through traumatic experiences.

The elephants belonged to one of the most famous American circuses, which was closed four years ago.

It is about 12 Asian elephants, smaller and much more docile than the African ones. The 12 pachyderms, who are now tasting the feeling of freedom for the first time, will be joined by another 20 elephants, as the administrators of the Florida sanctuary will arrange enough space for them as well.

Asian elephants are an endangered species. According to statistics, only 50,000 such specimens live in the wild.
