Some couples have an easy time getting pregnant, while others have a more difficult time becoming parents. Miranda and Josh, both nurses, have long fantasized about having a large family. But it didn’t turn out the way they had hoped. Miranda was informed she couldn’t conceive naturally and that if she wanted to have a child, she’d have to undergo IVF treatments. That is exactly what she did.
Fortunately, the initial treatment was successful, and the couple was able to bring their first child into the world.
They decided it was time to try for another child after some time had passed, so Miranda underwent another IVF treatment. This treatment, like their first, went smoothly, and the couple was informed that they were expecting twins. Miranda and Josh were overjoyed since it appeared that their dream of having a large family was going to come true. What they didn’t realize was that they’d get more than they bargained for.
Miranda received some unexpected news six weeks into her pregnancy: she was carrying twins, but two sets of them, each identical. This type of pregnancy is regarded as a miracle, to say the least, due to its rarity.
“About one out of every 100 embryo transfers results in embryo splitting. This is a one-in-10,000 chance that this will happen. This might also happen in a spontaneous conception, although the chances are significantly lower, according to Dr. James Grifo.
Fear was mixed together with the excitement. Miranda was concerned that the pregnancy would be uneventful. But she didn’t have to be concerned because her babies, Mia, Madison, Jackson, and James, were all born six weeks early but were completely healthy.
Miranda explains, “I wasn’t sure if I was going to suffer a miscarriage, and I was always worried that I could go into premature labor at any time.”
They were even asked if they wanted to terminate one pair of twins at one time, but they never considered it, despite the risks of having quadruplets.
The twins, as well as their older sister Joslyn, are now all grown up and enjoy playing together. What a large and joyful family they have.
