Shane Dyck was in a terrible vehicle accident that left him crippled and with little chance of ever driving again.
Following a horrific accident, the young man was paralyzed from the waist down after flying from his motorcycle into a cement block. Doctors told him that his muscle bulk helped mitigate the impact, which was the only reason he was still alive.
The young man refused to believe he would never walk again, so he spent eight hours a day in physiotherapy to regain his mobility. Shane gradually regained his strength, and now, despite his legs constantly shaking, he maintains his balance admirably. Here’s what he has to say about it:
“The doctors gave me a 1% chance of going again a few weeks after the accident. I didn’t believe it for a second, and I was ready to show them how wrong they were. I didn’t want to be in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. I’ve always participated in athletics, and bodybuilding has saved my life. I’m glad I figured out what I wanted to do with my life.
When the accident occurred, I was on my way home to change and then meet up with pals. I just recall what the investigators said: that I was attempting to avoid something and colliding with a block of cement. My helmet was shattered into four pieces.”
